EXCAVATION: The Armory Exhibition 2012, presented at Newington Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park, 17 June– 19 August 2012, was a group exhibition of work by 21 Australian artists associated with Newington Armory’s residency and artistic program since 2005. EXCAVATION explored connections between the conceptual methodologies and formal experiments of contemporary artists and the significant history of land reclamation, industrial activity, adaptive re-use and urban development on the Newington and Homebush estates. The exhibition included several new work commissions including a temporary site-specific outdoor installation by Gary Deirmendjian.
